Mary works at a local café but doesn’t have any health insurance. She is 45 years old and lives in Fulton, Missouri. Although Mary makes less than $400 a month, she falls in the Medicaid gap—she makes too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to qualify for discounts on the Marketplace. She suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes and has to pay for her health care costs out of pocket. Mary goes to the doctor when she needs to, but just in the last three weeks, she has had to go three separate times. If Mary had Medicaid coverage, she could get the regular care that she needs for her conditions.
