Kyle works part-time at a St. Charles fast food restaurant, where he averages 30 hours/week making minimum wage. When Kyle was 10, he had a malignant brain tumor. Luckily he was able to have surgery which extracted most of it, but not all – resulting in years of medications, visits with doctors, and appointments with specialists. Once Kyle turned 18, he was kicked off Medicaid and found himself uninsured for three years – without medications or check-ups. Kyle is now enrolled in a Silver plan with monthly premiums less than $40/month, a low deductible of $150, and a $650 out-of-pocket maximum. Kyle is excited, but decidedly nervous about his upcoming doctor’s visit.
