Josh was employed and insured up until Fall 2013, when he left his job to complete his Bachelors in Human Services from Columbia College. His income does not qualify for Medicaid in Missouri. Without subsidies or assistance, Josh cannot afford to be insured. He’s been insured in the past and knows the importance of it. It has helped him with pre-existing conditions and other surgeries he’s had. But, now, he’s in a scary black hole of being uninsured. He has up to $400/month to live on or $4800/year. He could afford a plan with $20-30 premiums, not the $200-400 that are currently offered to those in the Medicaid Gap. After he finishes his undergraduate, Josh plans to pursue a Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Webster University.
