James, Stoddard County

James is a single adult living with a disability and severe diabetes. Treating his diabetes requires the use of three different, expensive forms of insulin. Over the past year, the cost for his insulin totaled over $73,000. James relies on these medications to survive, but he cannot afford the cost. James began working when he was 16 but is now unable to work due to his disability, and he cannot afford private insurance. However, thanks to Medicaid, he is able to receive the medicine he needs while only paying about $500 out of pocket per year. James relies on these medications to survive and would be unable to purchase them on his own. Medicaid provides James with access to the vital medications that he needs to live. As James says, “Without Medicaid, I would not be alive.”
