Last year, Carlyn, a Joplin mother of one, had some lab tests taken at her doctor’s office. She had private insurance and labs were completely covered, as long as they were processed through LabQuest. Unfortunately, her doctor’s office sent her lab work to a different lab, despite that fact that her insurance card specified coverage through LabQuest. Now, Carlyn is stuck with a $400 bill that could have easily been avoided had her doctor’s office taken care to send her lab work to the appropriate lab. Her bill was eventually sent to collections when she had a hard time paying it, and although she plans to pay it, Carlyn says she is irritated that she even has to deal with it at all.
“That’s hundreds of dollars out of pocket that shouldn’t have to be paid.”
