Missouri Health Care for All has always been committed to doing whatever is possible to protect Missourians from the profit-driven practices of some health insurance companies. This has often been a challenge: We are the only state in the nation without rate review, meaning our Department of Insurance has no authority to see, publish or review proposed insurance rates before they take effect.
Thanks to action taken by our partners at the Consumers Council of Missouri, for the first time ever, the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has published next year’s proposed insurance rates for Missouri.
For the first time ever, Missourians can weigh in on next year’s insurance rates while there is still time to change them.
One insurance company, Coventry, has proposed rate increases for Kansas City and St. Louis that are unreasonable, unjustified, and would place a tremendous burden on Missourians. Coventry wants to raise rates by as much as 29% next year.
Coventry needs to do better than this. Missouri Health Care for All is calling on HHS to investigate and declare these rate increases unreasonable.
