This is amazing: We already knew that more than 8 million Americans had signed up for private health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. Today we’ve learned that number includes 152,335 Missourians who enrolled in new plans through the Missouri Health Insurance Marketplace during this year’s open enrollment period.
What this means: It means 152,335 Missourians can breathe a little easier. It means thousands can worry a little less about a medical catastrophe wiping out their savings. And it means thousands now have access to preventive care, lab services & prescriptions, many for the first time in years.
The Health Insurance Marketplace is working for Missouri.
However, the Missouri Legislature isn’t working for the 300,000 Missourians left in the coverage gap.
Because the Missouri Legislature has not yet expanded Medicaid, 300,000 of our hard-working neighbors are still forgoing important medical care. Without Medicaid Expansion, 700 Missourians will die – every year.
With today’s good news, it’s clear that it’s time for our legislators to put politics aside and pass Medicaid Expansion.
